TFL thanks MVIS for “Critical” olympic and paralympic support

MVIS has received a formal letter of thanks from a Transport for London director for its “critical” support during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

In a letter to MVIS’ managing director, Tony Price, Alan Bristow, TfL’s traffic directorate surface transport director, said: “I would like to formally thank you for the work you and your team have done for the planning and delivery of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

“Without doubt, we found the support from MVIS to be critical to our operation. As you know, the 177 mobile VMS that you deployed was the largest ever such undertaking in London. Our people were unfamiliar with the operating system and we were therefore not only dependent on you and your team for logistic support in moving/redeploying signs at often short notice, but also for the back office support to London streets traffic control centre traffic co-ordinators.

“I am aware that the back office support that you and your team provided, particularly Steve Young and Keith Menzies, commenced well in advance of the Games, initially helping us to become familiar with the system and then ensuring that we were able to effectively assign signs to groups, was very responsive and available at short-notice and at all hours. The support helped us to ensure that the operation of Games Lanes was effective, thus directly benefiting the Games vehicle fleets and helping us to keep London moving.

“Please accept my grateful thanks on behalf of TfL.”

MVIS signs support traffic management plan at Heathrow’s Terminal 2

With their fully autonomous solar charging system, the innovative five colour VMS signs operate continually under normal operating conditions. It was this system that was chosen by BAA to support the master traffic management plan surrounding Heathrow Airport’s £800m Terminal 2 replacement construction programme, which is due for completion in 2014.

The VMS signs, which have Highways Agency approval for replicating Chapter 8 signage, give customers the choice to create more ‘stand out’ messaging by replicating brand logos and using multiple colours, on roads where TSRDG (Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions) regulations are not in force.

BAA now has the ability to project often fast-changing passenger information using individual airline’s brand colours and logos. Martin Draper BAA Landside Senior Operations Manager at Heathrow said, “The visual impact of colour on these signs has had an immediate positive effect on traffic flow. Terminal 2 is currently an extremely busy part of the airport roads network due to the volume of construction traffic, traffic management restrictions and the need for our customers to access terminals 1 and 3, and the signs have proved invaluable in minimising disruption.”

“The signs are performing well 24/7 and we’re particularly pleased with the longevity of battery life and Web Studio, the sign management system, which provides flexibility to change messages instantly from any Internet enabled PC. We can produce and schedule our own messages and graphics and see the exact location and real time message of each sign simply by logging into the system.”

MVIS launches UK first at Seeing is Believing Show

Solar powered ITS provider MVIS, will launch at Seeing is Believing a fully integrated Solar powered ANPR system mounted on a fully mobile trailer platform that is set to transform the temporary ANPR market.

The Solar 2012 ANPR platform is fully integrated, comprising ANPR cameras, illuminator and processor in one housing, all mounted on a 5m air pneumatic telescopic mast.  A full PTZ mounting bracket allows the camera to be set up quickly and easily, using a laptop at the base of the mast.  Information from the ANPR system is transmitted via 3G to a back office or a cloud server for instant customer access.

Initial trials on the busy A6 road in Derbyshire have shown a read accuracy rate in excess of 90%.  They have also suggested that the new system will operate fully autonomously 24/7 for in excess of 30 days.

As with all MVIS products, the Solar 2012 ANPR is silent, environmentally friendly and cost-effective to deploy, requiring no civil engineering or third party communications.

Applications for this product will include police and security services, rapid ANPR deployment, short-term journey time solutions for smaller road schemes and event and festival cashless parking schemes.

The Solar 2012 ANPR platform is powered by four 250 A/H batteries and charged by the latest technology solar charging system,  including new 250w solar PV panels, designed to optimize ultraviolet light in a northern hemisphere environment.  It is capable of powering 12, 24 and 48v DC.

Colour Mobile VMS scoops, not one, but two Derbyshire’s BEST Awards!

Matlock-based Colour Mobile VMS scooped not one, but two of the prestigious Derbyshire’s BEST Awards at a glittering ceremony at Derby’s Roundhouse Friday night.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce’s Derbyshire’s BEST Business Awards came to a conclusion on Friday 28th September with Colour Mobile VMS winning both of his category nominations for the BEST ‘Marketing Campaign of the Year’ and BEST ‘Most Promising New Business’. This is a tremendous achievement for the company who was only established in 2010. Colour Mobile VMS (renamed MVIS) distributes solar-powered visual information and monitoring systems across the UK and will automatically be entered into the national Chamber of Commerce Awards.

Colour Mobile VMS Managing Director Tony Price says:

My team were there to celebrate our nominations at the Derbyshire’s BEST Awards but we never expected to win. And to win both awards is just unbelievable! It has been a fantastic year so far, we’ve just completed a massive project delivering 177 of our multi-colour solar powered variable message signs for Transport for London (TfL) along the city’s Olympic Route Network (ORN) for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We were delighted to have been a part of such a massive international event, and were praised by Transport for London for our capability within this sector. The team has worked so hard over the last three years and these awards are a fantastic ‘accolade’. It just shows what can be achieved with the right investment, the right marketing and the right people behind you.”
